12-8

We got the bus quite early - they run every 15 mins and are extremely good value; 1 hr each way for 10 Euros return! We picked up a Cezanne walking tour map at the tourist office and began to take in the sights, i.e. where Cezanne (1839-1906) studied and the Granet museum, which include quite a few of his works including Les Grandes Baigneuses (1898). We had a lunch stop on quite a busy street; I had a burger and babe had Caesar salad. Back to it, we saw the cemetery where he is buried, the atelier where we had a specific allotted time to keep to, which was 2.30 pm. The studio itself is quite small, but it has been kept very well and it is like looking at his paintings as you look around at the objects on display. The gardens were nothing special. We went on to the Terrain des Peintres where Cezanne and others would come and paint Mt Sainte Victoire. Here they have an unorthodox path that takes you past some homes and to a spot where copies of pictures Cezanne painted are exhibited right where the artists sat. After all this we happened upon the main square with the hotel ville; we hasn't sought it out. We had a drink facing the ampitheatre (I had a cherry La Chouffe) and the owner seemed to have forgotten that I'd asked for the bill - so I had to chase it up - we had a train to catch after all. We searched for T.shirts, but found nothing we liked.
